Common Sense: Who Uses It Nowadays?
Jesus said that before the end of time there would be wars and rumors of wars. There would also be signs in the heavens and problems on the planet. Sure sounds like we live in the end times to me.
Earthquakes seem to be extremely catastrophic and our weather is deluging the coastlines. People are killed and displaced, and the news is overrun with a negative report. However, God gave us a brain to use and reason with.
A little common sense may challenge some of the compassionate, but there are unclear thoughts going on in our country. If you choose to live in California on a fault line, should you not expect to deal with tremors, rumblings, and eventually, the loss of something…like a house or a car? If you choose to live on a hill where mudslides occur and your house falls into the ocean, is that really a tragedy? If you move to the coastal region and a storm blows your house away, is that really a sign of the end of time or a sign that storms hit the coastline with fierceness at times? If you choose to live in the heartland and a tornado leaves you wishing you could return home from Oz, is that really to be unexpected?
The truth is that there has always been bad news. More Americans are aware of worldwide events because of 24/7 news broadcasts, and more of our population live in the “danger zones."
Just today, they were analyzing the new hurricane season and the potential for future disaster. I wonder, if maybe we told people who want to live below sea level to get a life, use some common sense, and move to higher ground, if we would be considered uncompassionate. I wonder, if we told people who have been “displaced” for over a year that after a year, you are not “displaced,” but are now “relocated,” so get a job and move on...what would some say?
My point is that so often what we call compassion is mind-blowing political correctness that requires money from people for someone else’s desire to live in a place they can’t afford...to put themselves in dangers they can’t handle. Why don’t we just look at New Orleans and racist Mayor Nagin and say…”shut her down!”
I know it will irk some folks, but if common sense was very common, as a friend of mine once said, more people would have it.
Think about it.
