Is Your Light Darkness?
Sitting here today, I noticed that the news media will probably make a heyday out of the Church of Christ minister's wife who shot her husband. It is tragic news that takes us all by surprise. This out-of-the-ordinary incident caught the attention of America.
My question is, "Why?" Every day in inner-city America, fatherless boys and girls grow up in a culture of corruption living in life-and-death situations. These situations are promoted by politicians who have used a welfare system to enslave inner-city Americans in numbers never seen prior to the Emancipation Proclamation. This slavery has produced more unwed mothers and imprisoned fathers than any other, and violence is simply part of a way of life. Gangs create an identity based on reputations for violence, and yet, the passion of the media is to focus on the abnormal while the normal areas of self-destruction get no attention whatsoever.
The world has a way of sticking its intellectual head in the sand because it refuses to face the truth. Let a church get big, let a preacher have a good life, and the media feels a need to rally the troops to protect the poor and downtrodden.
Let a casino or a lottery come to town and watch the media promotion. There is no condemnation of the statistics that show the loss of homes and family support by the gambling addict. There is no outcry when those who can least afford it spend their welfare check hoping for a miracle and simply create greater poverty. There is no outcry when the leader of the lottery, a state employee, makes $100,000, $200,000 or even $300,000 a year at the expense of poor players. There is no outcry when a casino owner or a strip joint owner rides around in a limo or a Rolls Royce. You ask why?
I tell you, we live in a world of hypocrisy. Only those enlightened by the Bible can see that the light they call "compassion and education" is actually hurtful and ignorant.
Luke 11:35 (NKJV) Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness.
Think about it...how long will we waste money on a welfare system that wastes people's potential by trapping them in a culture of hopelessness?
